Why a tidepool

A tidepool is a small, bounded thing that turns out to be enormously complicated once you look at it. Twice a day the sea rewrites it. Nothing in it was designed; everything in it is responding to everything else. Watch one for long enough and you stop seeing a puddle and start seeing a system.

That is the game, and it is the reason for the name. The Sky Decides does not script its world. It simulates water, heat, soil and weather, drops life into the result, and lets the consequences fall where they fall. Rivers carve valleys that then redirect the rivers. A fire clears a forest and the soil it leaves behind decides what grows back. Nothing is on rails, which means the interesting outcomes are the ones nobody wrote.

The one-person part

Right now the studio is me. I write the simulation, the renderer, the launcher, the website you are reading, and the emails you get when you buy the game. That has an obvious downside — there is a limit to how fast one person can go — and one real advantage: there is nobody to escalate to. If something is broken, the person who can fix it is the person who reads the message.

So the support promise is deliberately small and deliberately kept. Write to me and you get a reply from the developer within a few business days. If the game does not run on your machine, that is a bug I want, not a support ticket I want to close.
